A unique cross-sector collaboration among the arts, legal and the judiciary community. Jack Tan, a London-based Singaporean artist, undertook the first ever artist residency at the Singapore courts. He explored the soundscape of the courts and transformed it into graphic scores, which were performed by the ACJC Alumni choir. The structural effect of this art-law encounter helped raise awareness and enhanced public understanding towards the LiPs' "Voices from the Courts". Photo credits: Olivia Kwok
In today's context, art and law are closely intertwined and it has become increasingly essential for artists to equip themselves with legal knowledge so as to level the playing field when negotiating with collaborators, landlords and/or sponsors. Preceding the "Voices from the Courts" showcase, artist, Jack Tan, convened a panel of experts from both the legal and arts community to share their experiences and knowledge in an interactive Q&A format. With the generous support from all its donors and in-kind sponsors, the CJC Justice Cup 2015 has raised a total of $820 000, which included the one-for-one matching grant from the Government's Care and Share Scheme. The fund raised will help more marginalised Litigants-in-person.
The CJC organised its first ever Charity Golf, which was followed by a Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. Through this event, we had raised $430,000 in donations from 25 corporate and 17 in-kind sponsors, which was matched one-for-one by the government’s Care and Share Scheme. This brought our donations to a total of $815,000, which was used to support programs for the unrepresented litigants.
